Koeltl of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York granted final approval of the $20 million dollar settlement. <br /> <br /> </p> <p> <b>The Lawsuit and Terms of the Settlement</b> </p> <p align="justify"> The lawsuit claims, among other things, that the Defendants encouraged physicians to prescribe OxyContin for medical indications other than those that were approved by the FDA, and without adequately describing the addictive qualities of the drug. The lawsuit also claims that the Defendants conduct caused physicians to prescribe the drug, and caused TPPs to pay for the drug, under circumstances and for purposes for which it was not indicated. The Defendants deny all of these claims and any liability and have entered into the Proposed Settlement solely to avoid the further expense, inconvenience, burden, and uncertainty of this lawsuit.
